Claude Motion turns reports, data and images into animations that last a few dozen seconds: a short explainer for an all-hands, a chart that moves in a board deck, or a product walkthrough for new customers.
Can you use it? Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans only. It is on by default for Team plans. On Enterprise plans it stays off until an owner turns it on under Organization settings > Artifacts.
How the animations are made
- Every animation is an artifact, a piece of work Claude makes that you can open on its own and keep revising, and it starts from the Motion template.
- Claude writes code from your description that moves the text, charts, shapes and images, and the result plays like a short video.
- It is not a video generation model, so it cannot produce real footage or real people.
- Because the animation is code, changing a word, a number or the timing of one part leaves everything else as it was.
- Everything you make is kept in the Artifacts tab.
Where to start
Ask in a chat. Any conversation works, for example:
- “Make this quarterly report into a 30-second explainer for our all-hands.”
- “Animate a comparison of our pricing plans for the sales kickoff.”
- “Make a short walkthrough of the setup steps for new customers.”
You can also pick Output in the message box and choose Motion.
Start from the Artifacts tab.
- Open the Artifacts tab.
- Choose a Motion template.
- Describe the animation you want.
For better results: say who will watch it, where it will play and roughly how long it should be, and attach the report, data or images you want used, so the animation is built from your own material.
Editing
- Ask Claude: say what to change in the chat, such as slowing down the second scene or updating the Q3 figure.
- Edit it yourself: make changes directly in the editor.
Export and share
- Download: click Export and choose MP4.
- Share: animations are private to you at first. Open one and click Share to send it to others.
Usage
Motion counts toward your plan’s usage limits like everything else you do with Claude. Longer and more complex animations use more of the limit than an ordinary message.
For admins: turning Motion on
This part only concerns Owners and Primary Owners on Team and Enterprise plans.
- Where: Organization settings > Artifacts.
- Default: on for Team plans, off for Enterprise plans.
- Who: Enterprise plans can use custom roles to limit Motion to specific groups.
Notes for newcomers
- Think of it as an animated presentation that writes its own code, not AI filming a video. It suits explaining data, processes and products. For real people or real footage you need a video generation model.
- Changes are cheap. With a video generation model, fixing one detail usually means generating the whole clip again. Motion is code, so only the part you change moves. Start with a rough request and refine it piece by piece.
- Describe motion precisely. Phrases like “slower”, “one after another” and “play once” are easier for Claude to follow than “make it feel nicer”.
